PINEDA - AGUILAR
"TORTOISE" BUCKLE

HISTORIC ANTONIO PINEDA AND HECTOR AGUILAR SHELL JEWELRY

This exquisite piece of jewelry holds both beauty and historical significance, thanks to the discernible markings that aid in dating its creation. Adorned with the Antonio Pineda Crown and the conjoined HA mark of Hector Aguilar, along with the Eagle 3 stamp utilized by numerous artists, this piece offers a glimpse into the Mexican Mid-Century jewelry scene. Notably, the Eagle mark ceased to be used after 1980, while the Aguilar mark was prominent between 1948 and 1962.

The shell featured in this jewelry piece, known as "Tortoise" in the trade, is sourced from sea turtles, particularly the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, reflecting a practice spanning centuries. Renowned for its unique beauty, shell jewelry crafted from this material has captivated admirers for generations. The collaboration between two influential Mexican jewelers, Antonio Pineda and Hector Aguilar, utilizing this rare and no longer available material, showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of a bygone era, preserving a legacy of exceptional design and creativity.
