HARVEY AUSTIN BEGAY

Harvey Austin Begay, son of the renowned Kenneth Begay, led a remarkable life that intertwined artistry and adventure. During his formative high school years, he honed his skills as a "bench smith" alongside his father at the esteemed "White Hogan" Shop. His passion for craftsmanship led him to pursue a degree in Aeronautics at Arizona State University, after which he served in the US Navy Air Corps and later embarked on a career as a test pilot.

In 1973, Harvey and his wife took a leap of faith and opened their own gallery in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, a venture chronicled in Barton Wright's "Hallmarks of the Southwest." This move marked a new chapter in his artistic journey, where he continued to create captivating pieces that reflected his unique style and vision.

One of Harvey Begay's notable creations is a handsome and intriguing cuff known for its tufa cast technique and silver overlay. This cuff exemplifies his mastery of craftsmanship and innovation, showcasing his ability to blend traditional techniques with contemporary design elements.
